As this remarkable year, 2023, draws to a close, I extend my warmest greetings and best wishes to you. May the holiday season bring you joy, peace, and moments of cherished togetherness.
As we step into the New Year, may it bring you a surge of renewed energy, success in all your endeavours, and the realization of your aspirations. Wishing you a prosperous and joyous 2024, brimming with exciting opportunities and positive moments of growth.
Reflecting on the past year, I am delighted to share with you the highlights of my contributions as a member actively engaged in various committees.
1. Sports & Recreation Committee, NBA Ikeja Branch 2022 – 2024:
It is banal that regular physical activity enhances brain health, aids weight management, lowers disease risk, fortifies bones and muscles, and refines daily functionality. I actively participated in the preparation and training sessions of the male team for the 2023 NBA-AGC football competition, securing group membership of the Police College Gym sponsored by the branch and enlisting an aerobics instructor to conduct the monthly Saturday sessions at the Bar Centre.
2. Continuing Legal Education Committee, NBA Ikeja Branch 2022 – 2024:
I actively participated in planning engaging sessions, such as the coroner’s inquest and findings within the operational and legal framework of Lagos State held on May 23rd, 2023, and the 2023 annual 2-day seminar of the committee held on November 22nd – 23rd, 2023, with the aim of enhancing professional development. In our commitment to providing diverse and relevant legal education opportunities to our members, I contributed to the successful negotiations and collaboration with the respective professional bodies of ICMC and NICArb to offer specialized training on mediation and arbitration, respectively.
3. Government Advisory Policy Review Committee, NBA Ikeja Branch 2022 – 2024:
Tasked with scrutinizing the government policies affecting the citizens, I actively participated in Committee meetings. Our discussions led to the creation of advisory position papers, which were presented, ratified, and adopted during the Monthly Branch General Meetings. Some topics covered include the Renewal of Proof of Vehicle Ownership Certificate, the Coup in Niger and the ultimatum by ECOWAS and the Proposed Workers’ Strike in October 2023/Palliative by the Federal Government.
4. NBA Finance Committee 2022 – 2024:
Inaugurated by the NBA President, Y.C Maikyau, SAN, OON in June 2023, I played a proactive role in the meetings where recommendations were crafted, covering vital areas such as finance for lawyers, the framework for investment of the NBA’s funds, and the CBN intervention fund. Notably, the President’s commitment was secured to engage with the CBN aiming to facilitate the intervention fund for professional bodies. This effort is geared towards helping lawyers access the support necessary to navigate financial challenges and contribute to the growth of the profession.
I am committed to contributing to the growth and success of our esteemed association. Thank you for the privilege of serving you, and I look forward to a year filled with collaborative achievements.
